Making a Difference, One Walnut at a Time
by Pastor Krista Price
Week of October 14, 2026
It's walnut season at Salem, and it's amazing to see how something as simple as collecting walnuts can bring people together and make a difference!
As we've been gathering walnuts and hearing from people who want to contribute, I've been thinking about the layers of a walnut. As those outer layers peel away, they remind me of the old wineskins Jesus talked about and how sometimes we need to let go of the old to make room for what God is doing in our lives.
God is always at work, reminding us of His love and inviting us to be part of something greater. But sometimes we make serving God more complicated than it needs to be.
We might think we need to travel across the world, take on a huge project, or come up with some extraordinary idea to make a difference. Yet sometimes God's calling is much simpler: Stay where you are. Care for the people around you. Look for opportunities to serve right in your own community.
We can't change the entire world overnight, but we can make a difference in our little corner of it, one step at a time.
That's part of what makes our walnut collection at Salem so special. Something as ordinary as gathering walnuts becomes an opportunity to work together, serve, and see how God can use even the smallest things for a greater purpose.
And we'd love for you to be part of it! If you have walnuts to donate, please consider contributing to Salem's collection. Every contribution helps, and it's another way we can come together to make a difference.
This week, I encourage you to ask yourself: Where is God already working around me, and how can I join Him?
You might be surprised by the opportunities right in front of you. Sometimes the greatest blessings come not from doing something extraordinary, but from faithfully doing the little things God places in our path.
God bless, and I can't wait to see you this weekend!
