Don't Miss the Moments

Sometimes, the moments that matter most are the ones we almost miss.
Today, my husband is carving a jack-o'-lantern with our grandson. It's such a simple activity, but I know those are the moments that will become treasured memories. It's not about how perfectly the pumpkin turns out. It's about the time spent together, the laughter, and the memories being made.
And it got me thinking about how often we let life's busyness get in the way of what truly matters.
We have so much on our plates. So many irons in the fire. Between our responsibilities, schedules, and everyday demands, it's easy to rush from one thing to the next without stopping to appreciate what's right in front of us.
But God doesn't want us to miss the blessings He has in store.
This time of year is such a beautiful reminder of that. The autumn colors are simply glorious! Some trees have already lost their leaves, while others are still holding on to brilliant shades of orange, red, and yellow. Everywhere we look, we're reminded that the seasons are changing.
And just like the seasons around us, the seasons of our lives are constantly changing, too.
As I get older, I notice those changes more and more. Fall brings some challenges for me with my sinuses and asthma, especially during harvest season and when the smell of burning leaves fills the air. I have to be a little more careful, but I certainly don't want those challenges to keep me from enjoying the beauty of God's creation.
More importantly, I don't want to miss what God has planned for me.
In Jeremiah 29:11, the Lord reminds us:
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
And in the verses that follow, He reminds us that when we seek Him with all our hearts, we will find Him.
What a beautiful promise!
No matter what season of life we're experiencing, whether it's a season of joy, uncertainty, change, or challenge, God is still at work. He has a purpose for us, and He invites us to seek Him along the way.
But sometimes, we have to slow down long enough to recognize His presence.
So as the seasons change and the days grow shorter, I encourage you to make time for what matters. Spend an afternoon with your grandchildren. Enjoy a conversation with a friend. Take in the beauty of the changing leaves. Make memories with the people you love.
Don't become so busy preparing for what's next that you miss the blessings of today.
Life's seasons will always change, but God's love and His plans for us remain.
Let's keep looking for Jesus in the everyday moments, seeking His guidance, and discovering what He has in store for us to do in this world.
