STATEMENT OF FAITH

  1. GOD: We believe there is one God, Creator of Heaven and earth, who eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:1; Deuteronomy 6:4-5; Psalm 90:2)

  2. JESUS CHRIST: We believe that Jesus Christ is the one and only son of God who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.  We believe in His sinless life and in His miracles.  We believe Jesus was crucified on a cross and shed His blood to pay for our sins.  He was buried and arose from the grave on the third day to demonstrate His power over sin and death.  We believe He ascended into Heaven, sits at the right hand of God, and will return to earth to reign over all in power and glory.  (Isaiah 7:14; John 1:14; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

  3. THE HOLY SPIRIT: We believe that the Holy Spirit is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ and that the Holy Spirit lives in every Christian from the moment we accept salvation.  We believe that the Holy Spirit provides the Christian with the power of living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right, which is determined only by God’s truth.  (John 14:16-17, 26; 1 Corinthians 2:12; Ephesians 1:13)

  4. THE BIBLE: We believe the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, to be the only inspired, trustworthy, and true, without error, Word of God. (Proverbs 30:5; 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:19)

  5. HUMAN BEINGS: We believe that God created all human beings, both male and female, in His divine image. We believe that all human life is sacred from conception to its natural end, and that we must honor the physical and spiritual needs of all people.  We believe that all human beings should be treated with love, dignity, and respect.  (Genesis 1:27; Galatians 6:10)

  6. SALVATION: We believe that salvation is offered to us by God through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  We believe salvation cannot be obtained through works, but is a gift of God’s grace freely given to those who confess their sins and put their faith in Jesus Christ.  (John 3:16; Roman 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 John 1:8-9)

  7. ETERNITY: We believe eternal life in Heaven is a gift from God available to anyone who places their faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior; yet hell is the place of eternal separation from God for all who reject Christ as their Savior.  (John 5:24; 1 John 2:25; Revelation 20:15)

  8. CALL TO DISCIPLESHIP: We believe that Jesus Christ calls us to be His disciples and to be obedient to His teachings.  We believe we are to love all mankind, to win persons to Jesus Christ, and to study the Bible.  (Matthew 28:19-20; Luke 9:23)

  9. UNITY: We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in God and in our Lord Jesus Christ, and that all believers are part of His body, the church. (Galatians 3:28; Philippians 2:2)

  10. LOVE: We believe that we are to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and that we are to love our neighbors as ourselves.  We believe that God loved us so much that He sent His Son so that we might have everlasting life.  (Matthew 22:36-40; John 3:16)

  11. MARRIAGE, SEX, AND GENDER: We believe that God designed marriage as a unique conjugal relationship joining one man and one woman in an exclusive union, and God intends sexual intimacy only to occur within that relationship.  Further, God created each person with a biological sex - male or female - that reflects the image and nature of God.  We believe that each person’s gender corresponds to their given biological sex.  (Genesis 2:21-24; Genesis 5:2; Mark 7:21; Romans 1:26-29; 1 Corinthians 6:9, 18-20; Ephesians 5:25-32; Hebrews 13:4)

  12. SACRAMENTS:  We believe the baptism of believers and the Lord’s Supper are the two ordinances of the church.  These two sacraments are the visible signs of God’s invisible grace promised to the people.  (Romans 6:3-4; Luke 22:19-20; Colossians 2:12)

  13. STATEMENT OF CHURCH COUNCIL AUTHORITY: This statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our faith, rather it is a summary of our core beliefs.  The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For purposes of church doctrine, practice, policy, and conduct, the Church Council is our final interpretive authority.
