Home as Sanctuary: Creating Space for God and Rest

There’s something sacred about the place we call home.

This evening’s reflection invites us to pause and think about how we feel when we walk through our own front door. Is it a moment of peace and relief—or does it feel heavy, cluttered, and restless? In Scripture, we hear about Abraham being asked to leave everything familiar: his land, his security, even his sense of belonging. That story nudges us to ask a deeper question of ourselves: what have we left behind, and what are we being asked to make room for now?

For some of us, home is where we finally exhale. It’s where memories are made—around kitchen tables, with grandchildren laughing, or during quiet evenings with family. Sometimes it takes a long journey to find that place. Sometimes you walk in and simply know—this is where God wants you to be. A place not just to live, but to rest.

But for others, home can feel chaotic or unsettled. Projects unfinished. To-do lists never ending. Hearts still racing even after the door closes behind us. Maybe that unrest is an invitation. A gentle nudge from God to clear out more than just physical clutter—to make space in our hearts, our schedules, and our lives for Him.

As we prepare for a new season—digging deeper into Scripture, sorting through old things, and discerning what God is calling us to next—it may be worth asking: does my home reflect a place of peace? Or is God inviting me to create room for rest, renewal, and His presence?

Wherever you are tonight, may you find moments of quiet. May your home become a place of rest. And may God guide you as you make room for what He has in store.

Blessings and good night.
