Finding Hope in the Midst of Grief
by Pastor Krista Price
Week of May 11, 2026
This week has been one filled with reflection for me. Over the past several days, I’ve learned of the passing of several friends and former parishioners — faithful people who have now gone on to be with Jesus. I’ve also had the privilege of preparing to officiate the funeral of a gentleman who nearly reached his 101st birthday. Moments like these have caused me to pause and think deeply about grief, loss, and the hope we hold onto as Christians.
Grief is a difficult journey because it rarely arrives on schedule. Sometimes it appears in the quietest moments — while holding an item that belonged to a loved one, hearing a certain song, or sitting through a holiday or birthday without them present. Loss has a way of surfacing when we least expect it.
One thing I want to remind you of is this: it is okay to grieve. God created us with emotions, and mourning the people we love is a natural part of life. Tears are not a sign of weakness, nor are they a lack of faith.
At the same time, Scripture reminds us not to grieve as those who have no hope. As believers, we know this life is not the end of the story. We trust in the promise that there is something greater beyond this side of the grave — eternal life with Christ.
That hope does not mean grief disappears overnight. Healing takes time, and everyone experiences loss differently. But hope keeps us from remaining stuck in despair. It reminds us that even in sorrow, God is still present, still faithful, and still carrying us forward.
As I look outside and see the beauty of spring unfolding around us, I’m reminded that seasons change. Warmer days are ahead. In many ways, that is true spiritually as well. Even after seasons of loss and sadness, God continues to bring renewal, peace, and comfort to His people.
Wherever this week finds you — whether you are celebrating, grieving, or simply trying to make it through the day — I pray you remember that you are not alone.
God is good all the time, and all the time, God is good.
